This project tackled a primary bedroom, a kids’ room, and a kitchen/family room, for a darling, active family. They were lovers of hiking, sailing and everything outdoors, so we worked to bring those elements into their home. The primary bedroom was in desperate need of storage solutions. We designed a wall of custom built-ins, incorporating generous hanging and drawer space, and a small but functional desk for work-from-home convenience. We also added a sleek eco-friendly ethanol fireplace for a cozy flame without the need for retrofitting gas lines, and faced it with a remnant of dramatic Calacatta marble. An art TV over the fireplace allows in-bed movie nights from the expansive linen upholstered bed. The shared kids’ room needed a less cluttered layout, so we layered an existing bed under a lofted one with fun, nautical styling, and added pattern and color to the homework and play spaces with a graphic rug and a pair of bookshelf desks and industrial style stools. In the family room, we added a large window to pull valuable light and take advantage of an open space next door. We refreshed the kitchen and bar with a deep earthy green paint and updated hardware on cabinets, new lighting and dining furniture. Then we added a warm accent wall around the family room fireplace using rustic planks of oak shiplap.
