Mad Men Office Suite
ABOUT
Mad Men Office Suite
The office suite on the lower level of this house is fully above grade, allowing for full-sized windows and valuable natural light, but the trade-off is low 8-foot ceilings. The owner wanted to tone down the cherry wood finishes, but to keep the feel masculine and eclectic. We used dark walls and saturated colors to create a handsome office suite opening up to the landscaped back yard. Rather than camouflaging the ceiling height, we opted to embrace it, keeping the existing rich wood-paneled ceiling. We freshened up the remaining wood tones with a white painted floor, and a dove gray wet bar for entertaining. The bar was accented with a honed marble tile backsplash with gold accents and a brass sink, and an industrial brass pot filler serves as a striking faucet. We mixed new upholstered pieces with a vintage faded rug, a Don Draper appropriate mid-century brass and smoked glass desk, and an antique library cabinet for stashing office supplies. A large-scale graphic painting over the desk provides a strong visual centerpiece and zoom background. The adjacent bathroom was refaced in a clean color palette.
